Introduction

On December 29, 2012, CTools was migrated to version 2.9. This version includes several improvements in navigation and in the user interface.

Collapse the left-hand tool bar

In CTools 2.9, you can click a toggle to hide the left-hand menubar so that only icons for the tools are visible. This feature is especially useful for media that requires a larger window area to display in CTools.

Click the toggle tab to collapse the menubar and again to open it.

View and access your sites on the drawer

The drawer is a panel where you can manage your sites. It opens when you click More Sites and, if it contains three or more sites, a search feature appears. You can choose to have site links appear in their usual place along the familiar horizontal banner, in this new drawer, or have them completely hidden. More about this here.

Rearrange your site tabs by more easily

In Preferences (which you can access in your My Workspace or by clicking the little guy with a gear icon on the banner), you can now click and drag your site tabs to rearrange them using your mouse, keyboard, or keypad. Those in the "Favorite Sites" column show up in your banner, those under "Active Sites" appear in the drawer, and sites under "Archived" will not appear anywhere. Read about this here.

Be sure to scroll down and click Update Preferences when you're done!

Open sites to a specific tool

When you open a project or course site, you can now go directly to a specific tool rather than the site's homepage.

To do this, on a site's tab and click the white downward arrow to the right of the site's name. A drop-down menu will appear from which you can choose the tool you would like to go to.

Access some user preferences from the banner

Along with the M+Google link in the banner, CTools now includes a drop-down menu with links to some preferences.

To use access these, click the little figure with a gear icon in the banner. In the drop-down menu, choose either the Site Creation or Tab Management link.

These preferences are still available in their original locations in CTools, as well: setting up a site is in your My Workspace and tab management is in Preferences.

For additional information about site creation, go to Setting Up a Site. For tab management, go to Preferences.

Publish your site quickly and conveniently

In addition to the publish site feature you can use when you create a site (or the publish feature in the Site Info tool after the site has been created), you can now easily publish a site using the (Publish Now) button located above the left-hand menubar in unpublished sites.
